Andy Sant"Andy’s mixing is tight with a very fresh track selection" – FUNKAPELLA, BRISBANE

Andy’s passion for music started at a young age as a bass player in various local bands in his home town of Stoke. It was here on a night out where his first introduction to house music took place at the legendary Shelley’s. Regular weekend jaunts followed to see DJ’s including Graeme Park, Sasha and Carl Cox.

Following this, a move to Manchester took place during the early nineties as Andy enrolled on a university degree course. Here he began to immerse himself in the city’s rich music scene, regularly frequenting infamous clubs such as the Hacienda and later Sankeys Soap, where he could listen to DJ’s such as Frankie Knuckles, Derrick Carter and Danny Rampling, whom all have had huge musical influence on him. It was from here that Andy took his first steps into djing, searching record shops for the sounds coming out of Chicago and New York, particularly on labels such as Strictly Rhythm and Subliminal. Shortly after this Andy began putting on one-off nights in the city called ‘House yer farther’ with a group of friends. From here, he became a regular on the Manchester student scene playing at various nights at renowned venues such as the Music Box, North, Fat Cats, Revolution, Kro and Dry Bar. In his sets expect a strong element of house in all its forms from deep to jackin’ to acid to progressive, packed with plenty of vocal jams.

As Andy slowly began to develop a reputation for his tight mixing skills and layering of sound, he was contacted by Yousef whom invited him to play at Circus, currently Radio 1 club of the year. Following this and recent gigs Andy’s reputation has increased and as a result has been contacted by several clubs as far a field as Australia, including Australia’s house club of the year for two years running – Family, Brisbane as well as clubs in Sydney, and a tour is planned for 2006. In addition to this the funkapella crew, a Brisbane based DJ collective, heard one of Andy’s mixes and signed him up to their online monthly house magazine to host May 2005 international guest hotmix. This was obviously a major achievement for Andy as it propelled him into the international arena.

Later, Andy made the logical progression from the DJ booth to the Studio and began producing his own tracks under the guise “Control Freq’s.” So far he has produced a few tasty house cuts and his current production, ‘Beat this groove’ is currently being championed up and down the country and has found its way into many DJ’s boxes, including Greg Vickers of Tribal Sessions fame. For information on future releases, please check out the productions page on his web site or alternatively contact andy on andy@andysant.co.uk.

Most recently Andy has had mixes featured on Homegrown Sessions show on Pulse Radio with Adam B and Tom Golden and the Inbetween DJs show on DJ Source Radio which host Paul McGuinness described as “a top mix – one of the best we’ve had”.
