Richard has always been interested in music, at 16 he bought his first pair of decks, which he used to mess about on. At the age of 18 he was seriously starting to get hooked on it all. He used to go to slinky in Bournemouth nearly every weekend for about a year. This is where he first got on to the underground scene.
After a few years of clubbing and understanding the music, plus a friend giving him cd’s regularly from people like Digweed, Sasha, Fortier, Tyrant, Jon Marsh and Tyler Stadius, and going to different underground nights and events his own style began to form.
Now at the age of 24, still living in Southampton, England, Rich finally feels he has found his own sound. He’s learnt its all about the bassline and has understood what the jack is all about. Rich’s style is blend of house, from loopy Disco, deep house, acid to deep rolling techno all with an early Chicago influence.
Richard is currently in the studio making underground music, which is getting alot of support at the moment from people like Derrick Carter, Justin Long, Honey Dijon, Phil Weeks, Sound Navigators, Tyler Stadius, Lady D in Chicago and many more. Rich has also been making tunes with Richard Bottom under the name Subsonic Collective and with John Barber under the name B.A.S.S, which stands for Barber And Sutcliffe Sound experiment. Rich has even started his own label Jack the System Recordings which is on to its third release already and getting huge support from many of the names above all around the globe. His label already includes himself, dBm, Johnny Fiasco, Loopity Goofs and Mike Dixon. Rich's music can be found on labels such as Robsoul recordings, Doubledown recordings, Jack the system recordings, D'lecable records, Nascents recordings, Headtunes and Black Crack records.
Rich was always clubbing and supporting local nights, giving out mix cds to these local nights, djs and mailing them off. Through this he got asked to play a local night called 'MOJO', and has played alongside Paolo Mojo, Phil Thompson, Steve Gerrard & has warmed up Pole Folder for his Bedrock album launch in Bournemouth at MOJO. Other recent appearances have included Tom Budden's night in Southampton, 'Short Circuit', 'The Gallery' at Turnmills, London and Rich also has a bi-monthly residency for John Barber’s night, ELECTRIC PLAYGROUND which is making its mark on the south coast. Rich has also been getting bookings abroad, and has played recently in Prague and his bookings lined up for Canada and USA.
Rich's influences for both production and DJing, are Tyrant, Terry Francis, Nathan Coles, DJ Sneak, Derrick Carter, No Assembly, A Jackin Phreak, Terry Francis, Chris Carrier, James Zabiela, Tyler Stadius, Brett Johnson, Jay Tripwire, Eddie Richards and DJ Buck to name a few. Nights like fabric, maison, club class, high tide, space, events like homelands and local nights have helped him understand what its all about.
